Batucada 'X' - selection (mp3, 1.29MB)
One of the first pieces we ever put together. This clip includes the 'duelling agogos' break and fabulous 'tumbling dustbins' ending. Enjoy!Here are some of the basic rhythms, patterns and breaks we teach in our workshops. Learn them before we arrive and we can try more adventurous material with you!
3-2 clave pattern (mp3 40KB) - a fundamental African rhythm (literally - 'the key') that you find underlying so much Latin percussion.
'Here comes the Judge' break (mp3 96KB) - taken from the old Shorty Long funky piece.
'Yes, please, mama' tamborim pattern (mp3 93KB) - one of our patterns with a phrase to help you remember it: "Yes please mama, I want cake, mama!" When you play it, "mama" is played with open notes, all the rest are closed. See, easy!
