Workshops
We will gladly run Samba workshops for you - for your school, your drumming community, or your corporation. We usually send 4 to 5 people to run a workshop, so that sections can work in parallel and achieve a lot in a short time.
We work on the basic African rhythms that underly samba. We show how rhythm is in all of us, and how we can all contribute to a drumming experience through listening and adapting. We show how layers of simple patterns create complex and exciting rhythms. And we put these all together with the class to create our own samba arrangement!
In our workshops everyone (up to 30 people) contributes the whole time. We will teach how to listen. We will teach some history and culture. And, you'll learn how samba is a special form of community music that allows people of all abilities to contribute, and where we all listen to each other to guide our own performance. We will learn with our bodies as well as our minds.
